Our favorite funny lady, #KateMcKinnon brought the crowd at the #GoldenGlobes to tears when presenting icon, #ElleDeGeneres with the Carol Burnett Award when she shared:⠀ ⠀ "It was 1997 when Ellen's self-titled sitcom was at the height of its popularity. I was in my mother's basement lifting weights in front of the mirror and thinking, 'Am I gay?' I was, and I still am. That's a very scary thing to suddenly know about yourself. It's sort of like doing 23andMe and discovering that you have alien DNA. The only thing that made it less scary was seeing Ellen on TV. She risked her entire life and her entire career in order to tell the truth, and she suffered greatly for it. Of course attitudes change, but only because brave people like Ellen jump into the fire to make them change."⠀ ⠀ Kate's point couldn't ring any clearer: REPRESENTATION MATTERS! When we see a reflection of who we are onscreen, whether we are LGBTQ, black, latinx, asian or any other marginalized group, we have the opportunity to feel seen, understood and valued both onscreen and off.⠀ ⠀ Thank you for using your platform for good, Kate!
