Tech Addiction and Teenagers

Technology is shaping the way our next generations interact with the world. Over 40% of adolescent girls and 20% of adolescent boys use social media for 3 *or more* hours a day. Kids are being enticed by the strategic placement of app colors and shapes, as well as the notification sounds. Their reward systems are being continuously and purposefully activated, along with their addictions.⠀

Tech addiction is damaging to children in the following ways:⠀

👉🏼 Increase in suicide rates, depression, anxiety, and impulsivity⠀
👉🏼 Poor communication skills and lack of social skills⠀
👉🏼 Sleep deprivation⠀
👉🏼 Rise in levels of competitiveness and jealousy⠀
👉🏼 Less willing to take risks (less teens are getting driver’s licenses and dating)⠀
👉🏼 Poor short term memory function⠀
👉🏼 Decrease in future goals
